(April 1, 2015) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will detour traffic on
Cordova Road (MD 309) near Old Cordova Road in Talbot County Thursday, April 2, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. to enable crews to replace pipes underneath the roadway. Two 30-inch pipes will replace older pipes under Cordova Road.
The SHA Easton Shop maintenance crews will work with employees of Bridges, Site and Utility of Easton, to complete the work within the 12 hour time frame while traffic is detoured.
Motorists traveling northbound on Cordova Road will follow a detour turning left on to Old Cordova Road (near the Hog Neck Golf Course) and proceed north back to Cordova Road. Motorists traveling southbound on Cordova Road will turn right on to Rabbit Hill Road, proceed south, then turn left on to Old Cordova Road and continue southbound until returning to Cordova Road.
Crews will mark the one-day detour route with signage and barrels. SHA crews will monitor the detour throughout the day to assist motorists.
April is Maryland Work Zone Safety Awareness Month. In addition to this project, drivers may also encounter mobile or short-term work zones.
Always expect the unexpected, pay extra close attention and drive slowly through any work zone. Whether it’s a tree trimming operation or a bridge project, be aware when orange is there: Think Orange (the color of construction equipment and signs), stay alert and slow down. Everyone is at risk. In four out of five work zone-related crashes, it is the driver or passenger who is injured or killed. In 2014, nine people lost their lives in Maryland work zone crashes, including four highway workers.
