Motorists Should Expect Delays during Resurfacing Project and Consider Using MD 542 (Loch Raven Boulevard) as Alternate Route

(October 15, 2008) – Beginning Sunday, October 19, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin resurfacing MD 41 (Perring Parkway) between Joppa Road and the Baltimore City Line in Baltimore County. Weather permitting, the $3 million project will be completed by the end of November.

The project, which began this summer, includes patching, milling and resurfacing Perring Parkway between Joppa Road and the Baltimore City Line. Other work on the project includes reconstructing concrete medians and sidewalk to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards at Putty Hill Avenue, Taylor Avenue, Oakleigh Road and McLean Boulevard. SHA is also replacing traffic signal loop detectors with video detection units, which will enhance traffic operations along Perring Parkway at Joppa Road and Putty Hill Avenue.

Motorists can expect single lane closures in each direction that will occur from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, weather permitting. Motorists will be guided through the work zone along Perring Parkway with reflective traffic barrels, portable arrow boards and changeable message signs. SHA’s contractor for this project is P. Flanigan and Sons, Inc. of Baltimore.

Citizens who have questions about MD 41 or any other State numbered roadway in Baltimore County should call SHA’s District 4 office at 410-321-2800 or toll free at 1-800-962-3077. SHA encourages all motorists to drive responsibly and “Think Orange” while driving through highway work zones by driving the speed limit and remaining alert at all times.
