(November 21, 2012) – The State Highway Administration (SHA) will detour traffic on two consecutive nights, November 26 and 27, for motorists traveling on US 301 (Blue Star Memorial Highway) near US 50 (Ocean Gateway) in Queenstown, Queen Anne’s County.  The temporary nighttime detours are necessary to install new steel beams as part of the bridge deck replacement project on westbound US 50 over US 301.

The first nighttime detour will be for traffic traveling on northbound US 301 on Monday, November 26.  The second nighttime detour will be for traffic traveling on southbound US 301 on Tuesday, November 27.  Both detours will occur from 8 p.m. until 8 a.m. the following morning, weather permitting.

The Monday night detour for northbound US 301 traffic will direct motorists to continue on eastbound US 50 to a left on northbound MD 213, and return to US 301.  The Tuesday night detour will divert southbound US 301 traffic to a left on to MD 456 (Del Rhodes Avenue) to access westbound US 50. Motorists will then travel across the bridge under construction and connect with southbound US 301.

Immediately after the Christmas and New Year Holidays, work will begin on the second half of the bridge.  Motorists will be shifted onto the first half of the new bridge deck while the second half is removed and replaced.  The entire bridge rehabilitation project is scheduled to be complete April 2013.
While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Safer driving.  Safer work  zones.  For everyone!
