(October 21, 2012) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) has reopened northbound MD 295 (Baltimore Washington Parkway) at West Nursery Road.

Yesterday morning, SHA planned to remove the West Nursery Road bridge deck over northbound MD 295 (Baltimore Washington Parkway) using a specially designed heavy piece of equipment that would wheel away the structure.  At approximately 12:45 a.m., as crews placed the bridge deck on the equipment, the load shifted.

On Saturday evening, four massive cranes picked up the existing bridge and placed it back in its original location.  Bridge inspectors inspected the structure and deemed it safe for travel under the bridge.

“SHA will evaluate the situation along with all contractors and consultants to determine what happened, why and what needs to be done now,” said SHA Administrator Melinda B. Peters.  “We appreciate motorists' patience during the closure.”

SHA will determine the next steps for reconstruction of this deck and the one on West Nursery Road over southbound MD 295 as soon as possible.
