(October 17, 2012) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) advises motorists using westbound I-68 through Cumberland to expect delays Thursday due to emergency repairs to the I-68 bridges over Kelly Road and Patterson Avenue. The two left lanes of westbound I-68 will be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., reducing westbound traffic to one lane.

The bridges remain safe for traffic, but the lane closures are necessary to address immediate needs related to concrete repairs on the driving surfaces of the bridges. More extensive work on the two bridges is scheduled to take place next year.

Motorists with questions about the work may call SHA’s District 6 office at 301-729-8400 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
