(May 31, 2012) – The resurfacing of MD 295 (Baltimore-Washington Parkway) north of I-695 and the Baltimore City line is well underway and will continue through mid-June.  Despite recent storms, crews are making good progress on the 1.4 mile paving project.  The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) expects the paving on northbound MD 295 to be completed tomorrow, June 1 weather permitting.  Paving on southbound MD 295 will begin next week. 

To accomplish this ahead of the next round of anticipated storms tomorrow, crews will work overnight tonight between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m., and tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

Paving on the southbound lanes will begin Sunday night, June 3, and take approximately one week to complete, weather permitting.  SHA expects all work to be complete by mid-June, weather permitting.  Crews will work during nighttime hours only between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. Multiple lane closures will not occur until 10 p.m. Motorists and airport travelers should consider using I-95 US 1 or MD 2 as alternate routes for the next two weeks. 

The MD 295 resurfacing is part of a $5.8 million multi-project “areawide” resurfacing contract awarded to Gray & Sons of Timonium.  Portions of I-70, I-83, I-95, I-195, I-695 and I-795 may also be resurfaced under this contract.  Each day, an average of 80,000 vehicles travel MD 295 between I-695 and I-895, and 67,000 vehicles travel MD 295 between I-895 and the Baltimore City line.
