Motorists Should Expect Daytime Delays during Construction

(March 23, 2009) –The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) today began a $700,000 roadway maintenance project along MD 16 (Harmony Road) between Two Johns Road and MD 404 (Shore Highway) in Caroline County. Repairs will be complete by early April, weather permitting.

SHA will patch and fill sections along the 3.5 mile stretch of MD 16. Construction will take place Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., with single lane closures. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time as they may encounter delays during lane closure or use alternate routes. Traffic flaggers, barrels, electronic variable message signs and safety signs will make drivers aware of the work zone.

On Thursday, March 26, SHA will begin identical maintenance on the 2.5 mile section of MD 16 from MD 404 to the Delaware State line. Weather permitting, this $575,000 project will be complete by mid-April.

SHA awarded the contract to David A. Bramble, Inc. of Chestertown, Md. Citizens who have questions about MD 578 or any other State numbered roadway in Caroline County should call SHA’s District 2 office at 410-778-3061 or toll free at 1-800-637-9740.

SHA encourages all motorists to drive responsibly and “Think Orange” while driving through highway work zones by driving the speed limit and remaining alert at all times. Learn more about work zone safety and the Choose Safety for Life campaign at www.choosesafetyforlife.com.
