(March 1, 2012) – The MD 168 (Nursery Road) bridges over MD 295 (Baltimore-Washington Parkway) will take another leap toward completion this week when the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) replaces a large beam on the northbound span.  The replacement is scheduled for tonight, March 1.

Beginning at 9 p.m., SHA will reduce northbound MD 295 to one lane of traffic approaching the MD 168 overpass, which is just north of I-695 (Baltimore Beltway).  At 11 p.m., occasional 15-minute total closures of all northbound MD 295 will begin as workers remove and replace a large steel beam.  These short-duration closures are necessary for the safety of motorists and workers during crane operations.  SHA expects all work to be completed and all lanes open to traffic by 5 a.m. Friday, March 2.  Weather permitting, the entire project should be completed later this summer.

This work is part of the rehabilitation of the MD 168 bridges over MD 295.  Each day, an average of 14,000 vehicles cross the MD 168 bridges over MD 295.  As crews work to keep work zones safe, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone.
