Motorists Advised to Use US 301 as an Alternate Route to Avoid Delays

(March 23, 2009) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) today began a project to perform roadway maintenance along MD 290 (Galena Sassafras Road) between MD 313A (Galena Road) and MD 299 (Massey Road) in Kent County. The repairs will be complete no later than mid-April, weather permitting.

During the next three weeks, SHA will patch and fill sections along the five mile section of MD 290. Construction will take place Monday through Friday during the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with single lane closures. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time as they may encounter delays during lane closures or use alternate routes, such as US 301. Traffic flaggers, barrels, electronic variable message signs and safety signs will make drivers aware of the work zone.

SHA awarded the $1 million contract to David A. Bramble, Inc. of Chestertown. SHA and the contractor thank motorists for their patience during the needed road repair. Motorists are reminded to reduce speed, be attentive, “Think Orange” and Choose Safety for Life as they drive through the work zone.
