(January 13, 2012) – The State Highway Administration (SHA) will conduct routine maintenance on the eastbound US 50 Business Drawbridge in downtown Salisbury on Thursday evening January 19th, weather permitting.  The eastbound lanes on US 50 Business will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., though the work will likely be completed earlier.  In case of inclement weather, the work will occur Thursday evening, January 26th.

Motorists traveling eastbound on US 50 will be detoured to make a right on Lake Street, to a left on Main Street, across the parallel drawbridge on Main Street, to a left on Mill Street and back to eastbound US 50 Business.

SHA crews will use variable message signs, cones and barrels to direct traffic through the temporary detour.  Covington Machine and Welding of Annapolis, MD has been contracted to perform the bridge maintenance work.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely.   Safer driving.  Safer work zones.  For everyone.
