What:

The State Highway Administration (SHA) is hosting a public informational meeting to familiarize residents and commuters with an upcoming major bridge replacement project at the I-83 (Baltimore-Harrisburg Expressway) / Middletown Road interchange (I-83 Exit 31) in northern Baltimore County.  SHA will replace the Middletown Road Bridge beginning early summer 2012.

Interested parties are encouraged to attend the open-house style meeting to learn about the bridge project and the proposed construction schedule.  SHA staff will be available to provide information and answer questions at project display areas; no formal presentation will be given.

When:

Wednesday, November 9th, 5:30 – 7 p.m.  Citizens may arrive at any time to view project design displays and speak with project team members.

Where:

Prettyboy Elementary School – Cafeteria
19810 Middletown Road, Freeland 21053

Why:

The Middletown Road Bridge over I-83, originally constructed in 1957, is structurally safe but showing signs of deterioration.  In early summer 2012, SHA will replace and widen the bridge as part of SHA’s bridge preservation and replacement program aimed at providing reliable facilities in a timely manner.  SHA will add a westbound lane along Middletown Road in the interchange area to improve traffic safety and operations.  During construction, the two existing lanes of the Middletown Road Bridge will remain open to traffic; however, SHA and the contractor will need to close 20 of the 60 parking spaces at the Park and Ride lot during construction work.  The project is currently scheduled to begin early summer 2012, with a projected completion date of late fall 2013.

Note:

Those who would like additional information on the project or the upcoming public informational meeting may contact Ms. Kelly Nash, Bridge Design Manager, SHA’s Office of Structures in Baltimore at 410-545-8074/toll-free 1-888-375-1084 or Ms. Fran Ward, Community Liaison, SHA’s District Four Office in Hunt Valley at 410-229-2312/toll-free 1-866-998-0367.  Citizens may also email questions or concerns to: SHADistrict4@sha.state.md.us
