Multiple Lane Closures Expected; Drivers Advised to Plan for Travel Delays, Consider Alternate Routes

(April 20, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will repair the bridge deck (driving surface) on the inner loop I-695 bridge over Milford Mill Road between MD 26 (Liberty Road) and I-795 (Northwest Expressway) the evening of Thursday, April 23. All lanes of the inner loop of I-695 will be open to traffic the next morning.

Crews will work between 9 p.m. Thursday and 5 a.m. Friday. Drivers can expect triple-lane closures later at night during the repairs. A single-left lane closure will begin at 9 p.m., a double- left lane closure at 10 p.m. and a triple-left lane closure at 11 p.m. After 11 p.m. all drivers on the inner loop of I-695 will be directed to use the far-right lane only.

The state’s contractor for the bridge deck joint repair, Covington Machine and Welding of Annapolis, will use arrow boards and barrels to guide drivers through the work zone. In case of inclement weather, the work will be re-scheduled for Sunday night, April 26.

The State Highway Administration is Serious About Safety. Pedestrians and motorists are urged to remain alert and avoid distractions when traveling through the area and detour route.
