Beginning April 16, the Speed Limit Will Be Temporarily Reduced to 45 MPH

(April 13, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will temporarily reduce the posted speed limit on US 50 (Ocean Gateway) at the Old Railroad Road intersection work zone in Hebron, Wicomico County from 55 mph to 45 mph starting Thursday, April 16. The speed limit will be returned to 55 mph when the project is completed.

This temporary speed reduction is needed to enhance work zone safety for the 1.68-mile section of roadway while intersection safety improvements are underway at the US 50/Old Railroad Road intersection. New regulatory signs that display the new speed limit will be installed to alert motorists for the duration of the project.

The State Highway Administration is Serious About Safety. Pedestrians and motorists are urged to remain alert and avoid distractions when traveling through the work zone. Motorists should obey all posted speed limits. Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
