Project Improves Bicycle and Pedestrian Connectivity Throughout the Corridor
(March 27, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is beginning construction on a $6.5 million project to improve bicycle and pedestrian connectivity, accessibility and safety along MD 713 (Arundel Mills Boulevard) from Arundel Way up to MD 176 (Dorsey Road), then continuing along MD 176 to Ridge Road in the Hanover area of Anne Arundel County.
The project is expected to be completed in fall 2027, weather permitting, and includes:
- constructing a 10-foot wide shared use path along segments of MD 713 and MD 176;
- constructing a pedestrian tunnel under the eastbound MD 100 off-ramp;
- installing multiple retaining walls;
- upgrading traffic signals at the MD 713 intersections with new crosswalks and accessible pedestrian countdown signals;
- updating signage, pavement markings and lighting; and
- installing storm drain and stormwater management facilities, including relocating underground water services.

Contractor The Six-M Company Inc., of Delta, Pa., will perform the work. Electronic message boards and barrels will be used to safely guide motorists through the work zone. Motorists should expect daytime and nighttime single-lane and shoulder closures along MD 713, MD 100 and MD 176 throughout the construction phase. Dates and additional details of pedestrian and traffic pattern changes will be shared as crews approach each phase of work. For project updates, visit the
MD 713 Shared Use Path Project Portal page.
The State Highway Administration appreciates customers’ patience during construction as we work to improve Maryland’s transportation system. Drivers are asked to stay alert, focused and be aware of reduced speed limits and driving patterns. Slow down and move over in work zones. It’s the law. Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for assistance.
This project is being accomplished in partnership with Anne Arundel County and is consistent with the Maryland Department of Transportation’s
Serious About Safety initiative, a department-wide commitment to advance improvements that drive safety goals and save lives.
