Motorists Will Be Detoured Overnight Tuesday and Wednesday to US 50

(March 12, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will close a section of MD 90 (Ocean City Expressway) overnight on Tuesday, March 17, and Wednesday, March 18, for tree trimming maintenance. The tree trimming and cleanup, which will take place between US 50 and MD 528, are necessary due to damage caused by last month’s storm.  During maintenance operations, traffic will be detoured to US 50.  Crews are expected to complete the work by Thursday morning, March 19, weather permitting.

SHA’s Snow Hill Maintenance Shop will work between 6 p.m. and 5 a.m. and use message boards, arrow boards, and cones to safely guide motorists through the detour.  Drivers should add approximately 30 minutes to their commute during the maintenance operations.

SHA understands that roadwork can be an inconvenience, but the work is necessary to ensure a safe and reliable highway network.  Drivers are asked to slow down, be patient, allow extra travel time, stay alert and move over when approaching a work zone.
