Through March 21, Motorists Should Plan for Extra Travel Time Overnight 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays Near Catonsville

(February 27, 2025) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will temporarily close the I-695 interchange ramps overnights for guardrail installation in the Catonsville area beginning Monday, March 3. Work is expected to be completed by 5 a.m. Friday, March 21, weather permitting.  

Over the next three weeks, contractor crews will work 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Mondays through Thursdays. The State Highway Administration advises all through travelers to plan for extra travel time on the west side of I-695 and to look ahead for other travelers following temporary detour routes.     

During work hours, motorists can expect closures and detours to the following interchange ramps the following sequence (subject to change due to weather and other construction factors):   

Monday, March 3 through Thursday, March 7:  

Monday, March 10 through Thursday, March 13:  

Monday, March 17 through Thursday, March 20: 

  • Westbound US 40 to Northbound I-695 (Beltway Inner Loop) 
    • Detour: Southbound I-695 to Edmondson Avenue, turn left onto eastbound Edmondson Avenue, turn left onto northbound I-695;    
  • Eastbound US 40 to Northbound I-695 ​(Beltway Inner Loop) 
    • Detour: Southbound I-695 to Edmondson Avenue, turn left onto eastbound Edmondson Avenue, turn left onto northbound I-695.     

The State Highway Administration and its contractor L.S. Lee, Inc. of Hampstead, will use temporary signs and barrels to direct motorists through the interchange work zones and ramp detour routes.​
