Motorists Should Expect Daytime Single Lane Closures
(June 3, 2019) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will resurface MD 68 (Lappans Road) between MD 65 (Sharpsburg Pike) and Barnes Road in Boonsboro. The $1.3 million project will be complete spring 2020.
Crews will patch, pave and restripe 3.2 miles of the pavement, as well as replace drainage pipes in the project limits. This section of Lappans Road was last resurfaced in 1998.
Motorists should expect single lane closures from sunrise to sunset Mondays through Fridays. MDOT SHA’s contractor, Craig Paving, Inc. of Hagerstown, will use barrels and flagging operation to guide motorists through the work zone. Approximately 3,000 vehicles use this section of MD 68 each day.
Motorists should be aware that there are several other projects on MD 68. Crews are rehabilitating the MD 68 Bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad in Williamsport. Crews are also widening I-81, which is impacting Lappans Road at the I-81 bridges.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our contractor. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on the road and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
