Motorists Should Expect Delays for Bridge Deck Repairs
(March 11, 2016) – On Sunday night (weather permitting) and continuing nightly until all work is complete, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily close lanes on the I-95 / I-495 Outer Loop (northbound) (Capital Beltway) bridge over Ritchie Marlboro Road in Prince George’s County.
At 9 p.m.,SHA will close a single left lane on the Outer Loop , two lanes at 10 p.m. and three lanes at midnight to repair the bridge’s concrete deck. Travel lanes should reopen by 5 a.m. the next day, weather permitting. Weather and progress permitting, all work should be complete by 5 a.m. on Friday, March 18.
Crews will inspect the bridge deck, excavate the section of roadway that needs to be repaired, pour a new section of concrete and allow for proper curing (drying) time. The need for the repair was discovered through a routine maintenance inspection.
Crews may use and secure steel plates to cover the impacted pavement in the work zone until all work is complete and it is same for vehicles to travel in the lanes where the work is taking place.
SHA asks for your patience as crews work to complete the project. Drivers are reminded to plan for additional travel time. For the latest real-time travel information, log onto
