(July 8, 2011) – On Saturday and Sunday nights, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will continue off-peak demolition work on the Hammonds Ferry Road bridges over MD 295 (Baltimore-Washington Parkway).  Work includes removal of the bridge parapet walls and stone façade.

During the overnight hours of Saturday, July 9 and Sunday, July 10 MD 295 will be reduced to one travel lane in each direction at the Hammonds Ferry Road overpasses between I-695 and I-195.  Motorists expecting to travel through this area or to BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport should plan ahead and consider using I-95, I-97, US 1 or US 29.  Lane closures and times are as follows:

Saturday, July 9

• MD 295 northbound will be reduced to one lane beginning at 9 p.m. and continuing through 10 a.m. Sunday, July 10.
• MD 295 southbound will be reduced to one lane beginning at midnight and continuing through 10 a.m. Sunday, July 10.  This late start time will allow most of the traffic leaving the Monster Truck Show at M & T Bank Stadium both lanes on MD 295 until midnight.

Sunday, July 10

• MD 295 in both directions will remain reduced to one travel lane through 10 a.m.  All lanes will be open by 4 a.m.
• MD 295 will again be reduced to one lane in both directions beginning at 8 p.m. and continuing through 4 a.m. Monday, July 11.

While the work area is limited in scope, lane closures must begin prior to the work zone to ensure the safety of motorists and workers.  SHA anticipates southbound MD 295 lane closures will start in the area of I-695; the northbound MD 295 lane closure will start after I-195.

This work is part of SHA’s project to rehabilitate the Nursery Road (MD 168) and Hammonds Ferry Road bridges over MD 295 in Anne Arundel County.  On average more than 90,000 vehicles travel this section of MD 295 each day.
