Second Economic Recovery Project in Western Maryland Hits the Streets

(April 14, 2009) – On Wednesday, April 15, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin a $2 million safety and resurfacing project along more than three miles of MD 135 (Maryland Highway) between Chestnut Grove Road and Lee Road. Weather permitting; the project should be completed by late-summer.

While traveling along MD 135, motorists should expect single lane closures between 6:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. SHA will provide variable message signs, drums and flag persons to guide motorists through the work zone. This section of MD 135 carries an average of 3,500 vehicles each day.

This project is funded through President Barack Obama’s landmark American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and is made possible by the Maryland Congressional Delegation’s passage of landmark economic recovery legislation. This project, together with other ARRA projects, will stimulate Maryland’s economy by preserving and creating thousands of jobs.

SHA awarded the contract to Keystone Lime Company. Those who have questions about traffic operations along MD 135, or other State numbered routes in Garrett County may call SHA’s District 6 Office at 301-729-8400 or toll-free at 1-800-760-7138.

During the next several months there could be more than 350 work zones across Maryland. Remember that work zones are not only large construction projects possibly taking years to complete, but smaller, mobile operations such as mowing, pothole repair and litter pick ups.
