(March 16, 2011) – Next Monday, March 21, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will initiate overnight closures on the Forestville Road Bridge over I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway) as part of the $1.6 million rehabilitation project in Forestville. Crews will close the roadway to replace a steel beam.

The temporary bridge closure will begin Monday, March 21 at midnight and should be complete Tuesday, March 22 at 5 a.m.  To ensure motorist and worker safety, SHA will close the exit lane from southbound I-95/I-495 to Forestville Road (exit 9).  All travel lanes on I-95/I-495 will remain open.  In case of inclement weather, the closures will be rescheduled for the next available night.

SHA will detour traffic onto MD 4 (Pennsylvania Avenue) to Forestville Road during ramp closure.

This project is part of SHA’s bridge preservation and replacement program. The Forestville Road Bridge rehabilitation project will improve the ride quality for nearly 4,000 motorists in Prince George’s County who use this bridge each day.

SHA will use variable message signs, jersey barrier wall, drums, and arrow boards to guide motorists through the work zone.   When workers are on the road, THINK ORANGE, which is the color of construction signs, barrels and warning devices.  Please slow down, stay alert and expect the unexpected.  Choose to make work zone safety your business at www.choosesafetyforlife.com
