Motorists Should Expect Daytime Delays during Construction

(April 21, 2009) –Today, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) began a resurfacing project along the southbound US 13 Bypass (Salisbury Bypass) from US 13 Business to Mount Hermon Road in Wicomico County. Weather permitting, resurfacing will be complete by mid-June.

During construction on this four-mile section of the US 13 Bypass, motorists can expect single lane closures Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. through late May. To accommodate heavier summer traffic from mid-May until completion in mid-June, construction will take place Tuesday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.; Mondays between 12 noon and 3 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. SHA will use arrow boards, traffic cones and barrels to guide drivers through the work zone. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, as they may encounter delays during lane closure, or use alternate routes.

The $1.8 million contract was awarded to American Paving Corporation of Eden. Citizens who have questions about this project or any other State numbered roadway in Wicomico County should call SHA’s District 1 office at 410-677-4000 or toll free at 1-800-825-4742.

SHA encourages all motorists to drive responsibly and “Think Orange” while driving through highway work zones by driving the speed limit and remaining alert at all times. Learn more about work zone safety and the Choose Safety for Life campaign at www.choosesafetyforlife.com.
