LT. GOVERNOR BROWN, STATE AND LOCAL LEADERS TO HONOR VICTIMS OF IMPAIRED DRIVING

ANNAPOLIS, MD (December 6, 2010) – Lt. Governor Anthony Brown will lead the State in its Annual Maryland Remembers Memorial, which honors the victims of impaired driving crashes in Maryland.  The awareness event will include survivors, families, and friends who have lost loved ones to drunken driving, pay tribute to victims, and implore Marylanders to designate sober drivers and report suspected drunk driver by calling 911.  Loved ones will present photographs of victims in a dramatic pictorial display of the many lives lost on impaired driving-related crashes.  Officials will issue a call to action as recent statistics show an increase in impaired driving related crash fatalities between 2008 and 2009.

Note: A processional of family members and friends will begin at 11:15 and include placing photographs of victims and lighting candles in their memory.

NOTE:        
With the increase in impaired driving crash fatalities experienced in 2009, 162 people lost their lives.  The December and New Year’s Day holidays mark one of the most dangerous periods with regard to impaired driving-related deaths.  Maryland’s law enforcement officers will be deployed in full force throughout the holiday season to find and arrest impaired drivers.
