(November 10, 2010) – On Monday, November 15, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin preventative maintenance repairs on the Dover Bridge (MD 331/Dover Road).  The Dover Bridge, which crosses the Choptank River at the Talbot/Caroline County line, is structurally safe, but routine preventative repairs are necessary to keep the bridge in good operating condition.  SHA crews will begin evaluation of work areas for the bridge on Friday, November 12.

SHA and its contractor, Covington Machinery, will clean and paint portions of the bridge, clean drainage inlets and pipes, replace portions of concrete curbs and patch the bridge deck (driving surface).  Additional work includes replacing sections of guardrail on the MD 331 approach in Talbot County.

During construction, motorists should expect intermittent alternating traffic on the Dover Bridge Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.  The intermittent traffic alternation will last no longer than 20 minutes as equipment is staged or material delivered to the project.  Longer periods of alternating traffic will occur when crews replace curb on the bridge.  Flag persons will guide motorists through the work zone.  The $120,000 project will be complete by mid-January, weather permitting.  There will be no project lane closures during the holidays.

Motorists with any questions or concerns can contact Bob Rager, District Community Liaison for SHA at rrager@sha.state.md.us or call 410-810-3200.

SHA reminds motorists that when workers are on the road, THINK ORANGE, which is the color of construction signs, barrels and warning devices.  Please slow down, stay alert and expect the unexpected.  Choose safety for life and to make work zone safety your business at www.choosesafetyforlife.com.
