(October 22, 2010) – Tomorrow, crews from the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily close a lane on southbound US 15 (Catoctin Mountain Highway) between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.  The closure is part of SHA’s intersection improvement project at the US 15/Hayward Road intersection.

SHA will close the right lane on southbound US 15 tomorrow and again on Saturday, October 30.  Traffic on northbound US 15 will not be impacted during the construction.  The closure will allow crews to tie-in the new relocated right turn lane connecting southbound US 15 to Hayward Road.

“SHA is taking advantage of the reduced traffic volumes during the weekend as our crews continue making improvements,” said SHA Administrator Neil J. Pedersen.  “Motorists are asked to remember the rules of the road as they would any day of the week – especially in work zones.”

SHA will place appropriate temporary signs and barrels to alert motorists of the temporary closure.  Motorists are encouraged to remain alert in work zones and slow down.  Citizens who have questions about traffic operations along US 15, or other State numbered routes in Frederick County may call SHA’s District 7 Office at 301-624-8100 or toll free at 1-800-635-5119.

Remember that work zones are not only large construction projects possibly taking years to complete, but smaller, mobile operations such as mowing, pothole repair and litter pick ups.  Choose to make work zone safety your business at www.choosesafetyforlife.com.
