(October 18, 2010) – Starting at 8 p.m. tonight, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily close three right lanes on northbound I-495 (Capital Beltway) between Exit 39 (MD 190 - River Road) and Exit 38 (MD 191-Bradley Boulevard) in Carderock.  The lane closures are necessary for concrete repairs to the underside of the MD 191 bridge over I-495.

SHA will close one lane starting at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., two lanes at 9 p.m., and three lanes between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.  The lane closures are necessary for the safety of both work crews and drivers.  Three left lanes of the six-lane section will remain open for traffic, allowing motorists access to I-495 east and I-270 north once they drive beyond the work zone. All of the work will be completed underneath the bridge; no lanes will be affected on MD 191.

SHA reminds all drivers to buckle up, obey posted speed limits, think orange, and stay alert.  Customers who have questions about traffic operations along I-495, MD 190,
MD 191 or other State numbered routes in Montgomery County may call SHA’s District 3 Office at 301-513-7300 or toll free at 1-800-749-0737.  Citizens can also subscribe to the
