(October 18, 2010) – On Monday, October 18, 2010, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin removing steel beams as part of the continuing demolition of the Old Gunpowder Road Bridge where it crosses over I-95 in Prince George’s County.  The Old Gunpowder Bridge is located just north of exit 29, at MD 212 (Powder Mill Road).  The demolition is a part of the construction of Contract C of the Intercounty Connector (ICC).

Removal of the steel beams will require up to three or four 15-minute traffic stoppages on I-95 Monday and Tuesday nights, October 18-19.  These traffic stoppages will occur between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. northbound, and between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. southbound.  Variable message signs were placed on I-95 in the affected area earlier this week to alert motorists about interruptions to traffic.

Remember that work zones are not only large construction projects possibly taking years to complete, but smaller, mobile operations such as mowing, pothole repair and litter pickups.  Choose to make work zone safety your business at www.choosesafetyforlife.com.

For more information about the project, please call the ICC Community Outreach staff at 1-866-462-0020, or visit the ICC project web site at www.iccproject.com.
