(October 1, 2010) -- As part of construction for the Intercounty Connector (ICC) project, crews will pave lanes of the ICC between Shady Grove Road and I-370, Sunday night, October 3 through Thursday night, October 7, weather permitting. Crews will work between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. each weeknight. No work is scheduled for Friday and Saturday nights.

Door hangers were distributed to residences within 500 feet of the paving. ICC community liaisons notified homeowners’ associations and community organizations in the area as nighttime noise will be created by the paving operations. Variable message signs have been placed at the entrance to Briardale Road and Epsilon Drive to alert motorists entering these communities. The roads closest to the paving include Briardale Road, Polara Place, Rydal Terrace, Epsilon Drive, Amity Court and Amity Terrace.

SHA makes every attempt to avoid night work near communities; however this work is necessary as temperatures continue to drop in early fall and paving can only be done when temperatures are 50 degrees or higher.

As of October 1, Contract A is 85 percent complete. Contract A is scheduled to open in late 2010 or early 2011.

When workers are on the road, "THINK ORANGE," which is the color of construction signs, barrels and warning devices. Please slow down, stay alert and expect the unexpected.
