(June 3, 2010) –  Following the tragic incident early this morning that killed a Maryland State Highway Administration contractor employee, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) expresses its condolences to the victim’s family and his co-workers.

“All of us at the State Highway Administration are saddened by the loss of Ghassen A. Sabra, who was apparently killed in a hit and run crash this morning.  We extend our deepest sympathy to Mr. Sabra’s family and friends, as well as to Sabra, Wang and Associates, Inc.,” said State Highway Administrator and Governor’s Highway Safety Representative Neil J. Pedersen.

Mr. Sabra was apparently placing traffic count equipment on US 50 at approximately 1 a.m. Maryland State Police continues to review the incident and SHA is partnering in the investigation.

As a reminder, when traveling Maryland roads this summer please remain alert for construction, maintenance and emergency operations work areas.  At any time, there may be hundreds of active work zones around the State – particularly when you consider local public works and utility projects.  These may include long term large construction projects, as well as smaller, temporary, moving work zones, inspections, surveys, debris and litter pick-up operations and pothole repairs.
