(May 3, 2010) – Westbound Interstate 68 (National Freeway) in Garrett County is temporarily closed at mile marker 22 near Grantsville as emergency crews and State Highway Administration (SHA) personnel detour traffic following a crash involving a tanker.  The tanker is not leaking though there was some minor spillage of diesel from the truck’s saddle tanks. Westbound I-68 is expected to remain closed for several hours.

As a result of the crash, SHA is detouring all traffic off of westbound I-68 onto exit 22, US 219 north to a left onto US 40 Alternate to a left onto MD 495 and back to I-68.

Maryland State Police, Maryland Department of Environment, local Fire Department and SHA crews are on site to detour traffic and upright the tanker.
