(May 3, 2010) – This weekend, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) is temporarily closing access to and from Airpark Road at MD 124 (Woodfield Road) to improve the pavement at the intersection.  The work is part of the $57.3 million widening project along MD 124 between Airpark Road and Rosewood Manor Lane in Gaithersburg.

Weather permitting, crews are scheduled to close Airpark Drive at MD 124 beginning at 9 p.m., Friday, May 7 through 5 a.m., Monday, May 10.   All lanes on MD 124 will remain open.  In case of inclement weather the work will take place the following weekend, Friday, May 14 through Monday, May 17.

Traffic will be directed to use MD 115 (Muncaster Mill Road) as an alternative to Airpark Road. SHA will use flaggers and variable message signs to direct motorists through the detour and work zones.

Motorists should be prepared for minor delays.  The MD 124 widening project between Airpark Road and Rosewood Manor Lane began spring 2008 and is expected to be complete fall 2010, weather permitting.

When workers are on the road, THINK ORANGE, which is the color of construction signs, barrels and warning devices.  Please slow down, stay alert and expect the unexpected.  Choose safety for life and to make work zone safety your business at www.choosesafetyforlife.com
