(April 23, 2010) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily close and detour the ramp from I-95 northbound to westbound I-695 (Inner Loop) on Tuesday, April 27 at 11 p.m. through 5 a.m. Wednesday morning, April 28.

Overnight travelers will be diverted to eastbound I-695 (Outer Loop) to Exit 9, Hollins Ferry Road, through the interchange and back to westbound I-695.

The temporary ramp closures and detours will allow crews to safely set new work zone barriers for construction of SHA’s project to widen and reconfigure the I-95 ramps to westbound I-695 in southwestern Baltimore County.  In case of inclement weather, overnight ramp closures and detours will take place on Wednesday night, April 28 or Thursday night, April 29.

This project will provide an additional lane along the ramp from southbound I-95 to westbound I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) and provide a dedicated lane on the ramp from I-95 northbound to westbound I-695 in order to address the queuing on the ramps during the morning and evening peak travel periods.  Utility relocation work associated with the $3 million project began mid-November, construction began this spring and the project will be complete this fall, weather permitting.

The State’s contractor for the project is Pessoa Construction, Inc. of Fairmount Heights, Maryland.  Citizens with questions about this project may contact SHA’s District Four Office – Construction Division at 410-229-2420, toll-free at 1-866-998-0367, or by e-mail at shadistrict4@sha.state.md.us

SHA encourages all motorists to drive responsibly and “Think Orange” while driving through highway work zones by driving the speed limit and remaining alert at all times.  Learn more about work zone safety and Maryland’s Choose Safety for Life campaign at www.choosesafetyforlife.com
