Intermittent Fifteen Minute Closures Required to Set New Steel Beams for Bridge Rehabilitation Project

(April 13, 2010) – On Wednesday night, April 14 and Thursday night, April 15, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily close  US 50 Business (Salisbury Parkway) at US 13 Business (Salisbury Boulevard) in 15-minute increments between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. The brief closures are required to set structural steel for the new bridge as part of the overall $3.9 million bridge rehabilitation project.  All lanes will re-open by 6 a.m. the following morning, weather permitting.

SHA will maintain two lanes along US 13 Business during the overnight work.  Although traffic volumes are lower during nighttime hours, motorists should expect delays during the brief closures along US 50 Business and the lane reduction along US 13 Business.  Motorists can use US 50 (Salisbury Bypass) as an alternate route.  The average daily traffic along US 50 Business is 19,000 vehicles per day.

SHA started the overall project in March and should be completed by summer 2011, weather permitting.  The bridge, built in 1960, is structurally sound, but needed rehabilitation to increase its useful life.

SHA awarded the contract to A&M Concrete of Dulles, Virginia.  When workers are on the road, THINK ORANGE, which is the color of construction signs, barrels and warning devices.  Please slow down, stay alert and expect the unexpected.  Choose to make work zone safety your business at www.choosesafetyforlife.com.
