Heavy Snow Coupled with Extremely High Winds Continue to Cause Travel Issues along I-68 in Far Western Maryland

(February 26, 2010) – As a result of heavy snow and high winds, travel conditions are extremely hazardous in far Western Maryland, causing major travel issues along Interstate 68 and US 40 west of Cumberland.

SHA maintenance crews continue to plow roads in the area, although the heavy snow and high winds are causing major delays and hazardous conditions in western Allegany County and all of Garrett County.

Delays and hazardous conditions are expected through much of the weekend.  Motorists considering travel in this area through the weekend should consider postponing their travel plans to allow crews to continue plowing and treating the roads.
