​Motorists Should Expect a Nightly Detour beginning Sunday, October 18 to Repair Water Main 

(October 14, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will have nightly closures with a detour of the Eastbound I-68 entrance ramp from US 220 beginning Sunday, October 18 at 8 p.m. Crews will be working Sunday nights through Friday mornings for two weeks from 8 p.m.to 5 a.m., weather permitting.

Motorists seeking access to eastbound I-68 from US 220 will continue to the westbound I-68 ramp and follow I-68 to the LaVale, Exit 40 (Vocke Road).  Drivers will then be directed to a right turn off the exit onto MD 658 (Vocke Road). At the traffic light turn left onto eastbound I-68 east.

Crews from City of Cumberland will perform the water main repairs. Advanced warning signs will be in place to alert motorists of the work zone and detour signs will assist motorists in navigating through the detour.

The State Highway Administration is Serious About Safety​. Pedestrians and motorists are urged to remain alert and avoid distractions when traveling through the work zone. Motorists should obey all posted speed limits. Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.​
