Motorists Can Expect Weekday Lane and Shoulder Closures through Spring 2028
(September 22, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a $4.8 million project to improve safety and traffic operations at the MD 543 (Creswell Road / Fountain Green Road) and MD 136 (Calvary Road) intersection in Harford County as soon as Monday, September 28. Weather and other construction factors permitting, the project will be completed spring 2028.
Crews will work weekdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and overnights, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday nights through Thursday mornings. During work hours, motorists can expect temporary shoulder and/or lane closures with flagging operations in the vicinity of the intersection. The State Highway Administration advises travelers to plan ahead for extra travel time to nearby destinations such as Cedar Lane Regional Park.
Over the course of the project, crews will reconstruct and widen portions of the intersection including:
- Northbound and southbound MD 543 approaches to MD 136;
- Northbound MD 136 minor widening to accommodate the widening on MD 543 with an adjustment to the right turn lane;
- Southbound MD 136 pavement resurfacing south of MD 543; and
- Replacement and upgrades of traffic signal poles and equipment at the intersection.
The work also includes pavement milling and resurfacing; installation of new pavement markings and signs where needed; construction of new curb and gutter where needed: roadway drainage and stormwater management upgrades.
The State Highway Administration’s contractor is Allan Myers MD, Inc. of Fallston.
