Westbound US 50 Lane Closure and Reduced Speed Limit Needed for Safety

(January 14, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will replace a drainage inlet in the US 50 (Ocean Gateway) median near Glen Ridge Road in Easton beginning Wednesday, January 21. The two-week project will require a left lane closure on westbound US 50, and complete closure of the US 50 median U-turn crossover just west of Glen Ridge Road. All work will be completed by early February, weather permitting.

Work includes median excavation and construction of a cast-in-place inlet to replace the existing deteriorated inlet and improve US 50 roadway drainage.

To ensure worker safety, SHA will place concrete barrier on westbound US 50 and reduce the speed limit from 55 mph to 45 mph through the work zone. Drivers are urged to be alert for construction vehicles entering and exiting the work zone. Eastbound US 50 will maintain two travel lanes and a 55-mph speed limit during the project.

The State Highway Administration appreciates customers’ patience during construction as we work to improve Maryland’s transportation system. Drivers are asked to stay alert, stay focused and be aware of reduced speed limits and changing driving patterns in the work zone. Slow Down and move over in work zones. It’s the law.
