***TRAFFIC ALERT*** STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION TO SHIFT TRAFFIC ON I-70 BRIDGE AT I-81 INTERCHANGE IN WASHINGTON COUNTY

​Work Will Require Overnight Ramp Closures and Detours; As part of the traffic switch at the I-70 Bridge Improvements Project near the I-81 Interchange 

(October 21, 2025) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will detour I-81 south to I-70 east and I-70 East to I-81 north in Washington County. The detour will be in place on Wednesday, October 22 from 8 pm to 5 am, weather permitting. 

Detour from I-81 south to I-70 east:

  • Motorists will continue to Williamsport and take Exit 2 onto US-11 north, then I-81 north to I-70 East Frederick.

Detour from I-70 east to I-81 north:

  • Traffic traveling on I-70 east will take I-81 south then take Exit 2 Williamsport. Take US 11 to I-81 north Harrisburg. 

Drivers can expect ramp closures from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. Overnight motorists should plan extra travel time. When the closures are complete, motorists will be switched onto the newly constructed portion of the collector/distributor ramp on I-70 to allow work to continue the deck replacement project.

Triton construction, Inc. of St. Alban, WV will be performing the work and will use signage, construction barrels and cones to assist motorists in navigating through the detour and the work zone.

The State Highway Administration is Serious About Safety​. Pedestrians and motorists are urged to remain alert and avoid distractions when traveling through the work zone. Motorists should obey all posted speed limits. ​
