Motorists are Advised to Remove All Vehicles from Morris Street During Construction

(May 12, 2009) – On Wednesday, May 13, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin resurfacing along one mile of MD 333 (Oxford Road/Morris Street) between Strand Street and Bonfield Avenue in Oxford, Talbot County. Weather permitting, resurfacing will be complete by Friday, May 15.

Construction will take place each day between 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. During this time, motorists should expect single lane closures and should stay alert for SHA crews, electronic message signs, cones, drums and flaggers that will guide them through the work zone.

MD 333 is the major artery in the town of Oxford, carrying a daily average of more than 3,000 vehicles. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time as they may encounter delays during the lane closures. To avoid any added congestion or heightened hazard, the Oxford Police Department has ordered all vehicles to be removed from Morris Street during construction.

SHA awarded the $127,000 contract to David A. Bramble, Inc. Citizens who have questions about MD 333 or any other State numbered roadway in Talbot County should call SHA’s District 2 office at 410.778.3061 or toll-free at 1.800.637.9740.

Warmer temperatures mean more work zones; statewide there may be more than 350 work zones this construction season. SHA encourages all motorists to drive responsibly and “Think Orange” while driving through highway work zones by driving the speed limit and remaining alert at all times. Protect yourself, other travelers and highway workers by choosing safety for life.
