(May 15, 2025) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will assist a utility company by temporarily closing all lanes in both directions of I-270 at Exit 1, Democracy Boulevard, early Friday, May 16. The closure will allow Verizon to remove a low hanging cable. The operation will begin at 2 a.m. and is expected to be completed in approximately 40 minutes. All work is weather permitting.

Drivers should consider using MD 187 (Old Georgetown Road) or MD 355 (Rockville Pike) as alternate routes during the utility work.

The State Highway Administration works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our contractors. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on the road and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
