Drivers Should Expect Daytime and Nighttime Lane Closures
(April 3, 2025) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin working on several major roadways in Baltimore County starting Monday, April 7. All work should be complete by late spring, weather permitting.
The projects are as follows:
I-795 from I-695 to the Owings Mills Boulevard (MD 940) interchange:
- Beginning as soon as Monday morning, April 7, crews will conduct drilling operations to obtain soil and pavement samples along both shoulders of I-795 in each direction, including the ramp from northbound I-795 to northbound Owings Mills Boulevard, as well as the ramp from northbound I-795 to southbound Owings Mills Boulevard.
- Drivers can expect lane closures weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and overnight lane closures Sundays–Thursdays from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The State Highway Administration’s contractor, Hillis Carnes Engineering Associates, Inc. of Annapolis Junction, will use temporary traffic signs and cones to guide motorists traveling within the I-795 work zone.
I-695 /US 40 Interchange:
- Beginning on Thursday, April 10, crews will paint the I-695 bridge over US 40 (Baltimore National Pike) as part of its regular bridge maintenance program.
- Both directions of I-695: Motorists can expect overnight single-lane closures Sundays – Thursdays from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next day.
- Eastbound US 40: Motorists can expect single-lane closures on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and overnight single-lane closures Sundays through Thursdays from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day. Drivers can also expect double lane closures from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Westbound US 40: Motorists can expect overnight single-lane closures Sundays through Thursdays from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and double-lane closures from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m.
Contractor Reglas Painting Co. of Dundalk will use temporary traffic signs and cones to guide motorists traveling within the I-695/US 40 interchange work zone.
The State Highway Administration works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits as well as other traffic pattern changes.
