Bridge Closed During Construction; Traffic Detoured onto Lake Street and Mill Street Weekend of November 13

(November 9, 2009) – During the weekend of November 13, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will repair the US 50 Business (Ocean Gateway/Salisbury Parkway) drawbridge over the Wicomico River. During construction, crews will close the bridge and detour traffic in order to replace steel beams under the grid deck of the bridge. Weather permitting, construction will be complete and all lanes will be open by Monday morning, November 16.

Traffic will be detoured between 7 p.m. Friday, November 13 and 6 a.m. Monday, November 16. Eastbound traffic will be detoured to the south using Small Street to Main Street and then to Mill Street. Westbound traffic will be detoured to the north using Mill Street to West Isabella Street to Lake Street.

SHA will use construction signs, variable message signs and temporary barriers to guide drivers through the work zone and detours. This project is a part of a $509,500 contract awarded to Covington Machine and Welding, Inc. of Annapolis.  Citizens who have questions about this project or any other State numbered roadway in Wicomico County should call SHA’s District 1 office at 410-677-4000 or toll free at 1-800-825-4742.
