Expect Overnight Lane Closures, Traffic Pattern Shifts until noon Sunday

(November 20, 2024) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin extended weekend concrete work to install bus pads on MD 26 (Liberty Road) between east of Milford Mill Road and Langrehr Road in Milford Mill on Friday, November 22.

In case of inclement weather forecasts for November 22, the concrete work will take place on the weekend of December 6 or later. All work will be completed by mid-December, weather permitting.

Drivers can expect temporary lane closures and traffic pattern shifts in both directions of MD 26, from east of Milford Mill Road to Langrehr Road.  The lane closures and traffic pattern shifts will be in effect between 9 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday, November 25 noon. The center turn lane will be temporarily converted into a travel lane for westbound traffic during the work.

Anticipated Lane Closure Schedule (weather and construction conditions permitting)

9 p.m. Friday – 12 p.m.  Saturday (Noon):

  • Westbound – both lanes closed
  • Center turn lane – carries both lanes of westbound traffic in one lane
  • Eastbound – right lane open, left lane closed

12 p.m. Saturday – 12 p.m. Sunday:

  • Westbound – right lane closed, left lane open
  • Center turn lane - carries left lane westbound
  • Eastbound – both lanes open

5 am Monday:

  • Westbound – both lanes open
  • Center turn lane - returns to normal operation
  • Eastbound – both lanes open

The State Highway Administration advises driver and bus riders that there may be intermittent lane closures between Sunday afternoon and 5 a.m. Monday morning to move personnel and equipment from the work zone.

Drivers should add extra drivetime during the work this weekend and look ahead for changing traffic patterns and crews in the work zone.  Maryland Transit Administration customers on westbound MD 26 should plan for extra travel time on CityLink Lime, LocalLink 37 and LocalLink 81, and customers on eastbound MD 26 should plan for extra travel time on CityLink Lime and LocalLink 37.

The lane closures and traffic pattern changes will provide a safer work zone for the construction, concrete curing and testing of a new concrete bus stop pad in the right lane of westbound MD 26 west of Milford Mill Road in conjunction with a new private commercial development.

The State Highway Administration works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits as well as other traffic pattern changes.
