(October 25, 2024) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will perform overnight bridge work at the Ruxton Road bridge over I-83 (Jones Falls Expressway/JFX) beginning 9 p.m. Tuesday, October 29.  The work will take place each night through Thursday, October 31.

Beginning at 9 p.m. Tuesday, contractor crews will work on southbound I-83 on the Ruxton Road bridge to install shielding underneath the bridge deck (riding surface).

To more safely perform the work, there will be an interchange ramp detour and lane closures in the vicinity of the I-695/I-83 JFX interchange and the Ruxton Road bridge overnight from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day.

Ramp Closure/Detour:
  • The ramp from eastbound I-695 (Baltimore Beltway inner loop) to southbound I-83 (Jones Falls Expressway) to be closed overnight 9 p.m. - 5 a.m.  Detour: Proceed on eastbound I-695 to MD 139 (Charles Street) interchange, go through the interchange to westbound I-695 (outer loop) and proceed on the outer loop to southbound I-83 JFX.

Lane Closures:
  •  There will be an overnight lane closure on the two-lane ramp from westbound I-695    to southbound I-83 JFX, 9 p.m. - 5 a.m.
  • There will be overnight single- and double-lane closures on southbound I-83 JFX between south of the I-695 interchange and south of Ruxton Road, 9 p.m. - 5 a.m.  During the bridge work, all traffic on southbound I-83 JFX will merge into one lane prior to the Ruxton Road bridge.

The State’s contractor for the $15,000 bridge shielding installation is PDI Sheetz, Inc. of Linthicum Heights.

The State Highway Administration works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits as well as other traffic pattern changes.
