***TRAFFIC ALERT*** STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION CONTINUES PROJECT TO IMPROVE THE DRIVING SURFACE OF TEN BRIDGES AT THE I-95/I-695 INTERCHANGE IN SOUTHWESTERN BALTIMORE COUNTY

​Motorists Should Expect Significant Overnight Delays at the I-95/I-695 Interchange near Arbutus 

(October 21, 2024) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will temporarily close multiple lanes on northbound I-95 at the I-695 interchange in southwestern Baltimore County on Thursday night October 24. All lanes and ramps will reopen by 5 a.m. Friday, weather permitting.  

The multiple lane closures will allow crews to install raised reflective pavement markers between the travel lanes on northbound I-95. Learn more about the rehabilitation project here​

Additionally, overnight lane and ramp closures are planned throughout the week as crews continue to work on the 10-bridge rehabilitation project at the interchange.    

Drivers can expect the following overnight lane closures on southbound I-95 at I-695 starting at 7 p.m. Thursday: 

  • Single-lane closure beginning at 7 p.m.  
  • Double-lane closure beginning at 9 p.m.  
  • Triple-lane closure beginning at 12 midnight; a single lane will be open for travel until 5 a.m. Friday  

There also will be single- and double-lane closures on southbound I-95 at I-695 Monday through Thursday night, 7 p.m. - 5 a.m. 

  • Single-lane closure beginning at 7 p.m.  
  • Double-lane closure beginning at 9 p.m.  

There also will be single- and double-lane closures on westbound I-695 (Inner Loop) at I-95 Monday through Thursday night. 7 p.m. - 5 a.m. 

  • Single-lane closure beginning at 7 p.m.  
  • Double-lane closure beginning at 9 p.m.  

There will be single-lane closures on eastbound I-695 (Outer Loop) Monday through Thursday night, 7 p.m. - 5 a.m. 

  • ​Single-lane closure beginning at 7 p.m.  
  • Four ramps at the interchange will be closed and detoured Monday through Thursday night, 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. 
  • Ramp from Eastbound I-695 (Outer Loop) to Southbound I-95  
  • Ramp from Westbound I-695 (Inner Loop) to Southbound I-95  
  • Ramp from Northbound I-95 to Westbound I-695 (Inner Loop)   
  • Ramp from Eastbound I-695 to Northbound I-695    

During multiple lane closures, motorists are advised to plan for extra travel time and consider alternate routes. Crews will use digital message boards, temporary signs and barrels to direct drivers safely through the nighttime work zone. MDOT SHA contractor Wagman Heavy Civil Inc., of York, Pa., will perform the work.
