Motorists Should Expect Daytime Single Lane Along Security Boulevard

(October 18, 2024) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will temporarily close a single lane in both directions MD 122 (Security Boulevard) near the I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) interchange beginning Monday, October 21 so that crews can construct highway safety improvements in the median of the four-lane roadway.

The project includes removal and replacement of the solid concrete median underneath the I-695 bridges over MD 122 and installation of new metal barriers (guardrail) in the grass and concrete median areas between Rolling Road and Whitehead Road. Motorists, pedestrians and Maryland Transit Administration bus riders should expect temporary daytime single lane closures on
MD 122 between Rolling Road and Whitehead Road. The lane closures will be in effect Mondays through Fridays 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

The safety project should be complete by mid-November, weather permitting.

The State Highway Administration’s contractor, Concrete General Inc. of Gaithersburg, will use cones and barrels to guide motorists through the work zone.

The State Highway Administration works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits as well as other traffic pattern changes.
