Expect Daytime Work with a Flagging Operation in Place in Two Locations
(August 22, 2024) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will perform bridge inspections on two bridges on US 522 near Hancock from Monday, August 26 to Thursday, August 29, weather permitting. The work will include the US 522 bridge over the Potomac River and the US 522 bridge over Limestone Road and MD 144 (W. Main Street).
Crews will work on both bridges Mondays through Thursdays from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the US 522 bridge over the Potomac River. Drivers can expect a flagging operation on the US 522 bridge over the Potomac River during work hours. Crews will work on the US 522 bridge over Limestone Road and MD 144 (Main Street) from under the bridge and by using a flagging operation on Limestone Road southbound. A contingency plan in the event of rain would be to perform the inspection from 9 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
The State Highway Administration’s contractor, Wallace, Montgomery & Associates, LLP, of Hunt Valley, MD will use electronic message boards, barrels, and cones to guide motorists safely through the work zone. Please plan additional drive time for your commute during this time.
The State Highway Administration appreciates motorists’ patience as we complete this necessary inspection and maintenance work. Drivers are asked to slow down in the work zone for the safety of all drivers and the crews working to improve our roadways.
