Motorists Should Expect Flagging, Lane Shifts and Shoulder Closures During Work Hours

(August 22, 2024) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is assisting a utility company with traffic control for overhead utility work on MD 51 (Oldtown Road SE) between Brice Hollow Road and West Virginia State Line beginning August 26. All work is expected to be complete by the end of summer, weather permitting.

Drivers can expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Motorists are encouraged to allow extra commuting time during work hours.

The work will be conducted by Pillar Communications, Grantsville, MD. Crews will be hanging fiber on existing poles.  The contractors will use electronic message boards, signs, barrels and cones to alert motorists about the single-lane closures and work zones.
