(February 15, 2010) The Maryland Department of Transportation's State Highway Administration (SHA) reminds motorists and pedestrians to use caution when traveling tonight and Tuesday morning. Though interstates and other major routes are passable, plowed snow remains piled on some shoulders, merge lanes and interchange ramps.
Statewide, crews spent the day readying equipment, reloading salt trucks and are now on standby as snow and rain enter the region. With limited sight distance in some locations, citizens are urged to use extreme caution at intersections.
When driving, please travel safely and share the road. Motorists should never pass or follow too closely behind a snow plow or salt truck and be on the alert for static or slow-moving clean-up operations. Where possible, pedestrians are encouraged to use sidewalks. As snow melts and temperatures fall overnight, icy conditions are expected. Motorists should adjust their speed and driving habits as road conditions are not yet normal; the potential for icy conditions still exists as temperatures decrease overnight.
