Project Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

(October 22, 2009) – On Monday, October 26, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) begins a project to resurface MD 404 (Shore Highway) between MD 404 Alternate (Hillsboro Road) and Holly Road in Caroline County.  Weather permitting, this project will be complete by spring 2010.

 Construction on this two and a half mile section of roadway includes:
• Patching, grinding and resurfacing existing road and shoulders;
• Installing new guardrail and end treatments;
• Painting new highway pavement markings; and
• Installing erosion and sediment controls. 

Contractors will work Monday through Friday at varying times.  Crews will conduct single-lane closures, using arrow panels, variable message signs, barrels and cones to guide motorists through the work zone. This section of MD 404 carries an average 20,070 vehicles per day. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, as they may encounter delays. 

David A.
